PageFour Editor's Review

PageFour, as stated by the publisher, is a word processor designed to help creative writers in the endeavor of writing books, novels, etc.

Indeed, this application proved to be useful for most of the office related activities, except for creating documents containing tables or graphs. The program has lots of features commonly found in any respectable office-like word processor. Font and paragraph formatting, password protection for documents, scheduled auto-saving feature, document importer for DOC, RTF and TXT files, and many more.

A feature that got my attention is the 'Smart-Edit'. When using this feature, you can scan your text looking for phrases with a custom number of words (between 1 and 20) which can occur in the text for up to 100 times. These phrases will be displayed in a list in order to help you draft documents quickly.

There is also a spell checker (as you write) included, as well as thesaurus and dictionaries. However, I could only find English dictionaries. You can insert special characters (symbols), but you can't insert images.

Pluses: The pages can be open in tabs; the content can be scheduled for archiving. You can save your work in DOC, RTF and TXT file format.

Drawbacks / flaws: The program lock feature does only part of the job, in my opinion. When a file is locked, I expect it to be unaccessible. Indeed, after you have used the 'Lock and Unlock' feature, the files are unaccessible, except for the file which is already open.You can't insert images, tables and you can't create covers for your books.

In conclusion: This program appears to be an average word processor. Before paying for it, you might want to take a look at other products such as OpenOffice.org
